On the whole, Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan is not the kind of comedy which will have the audience in splits. It will, therefore, not be able to make any mark at the ticket windows. Business in Gujarat will be slightly okay because of the Gujarati characters.

Why did this ultra-loud, blindingly colour-coordinated bunch who did nothing of any consequence in the first movie, bother to circle back for a sequel? In 2010, there may still have been space for a movie spin-off of a popular TV show, especially when it went off for seasonal breaks. But to do this now, when endless re-runs have made sure that Hansa Ben (Supriya Pathak) and her cohorts are never too far off from their fans? It makes no sense.

The filmmakers have tried to scale up the movie, but the story and screenplay do not support this effort. That being said, the performances and the nonsensical capers will make you laugh frequently. Fans of the franchise may especially enjoy this one

If smart satire could be combined with slapstick, Khichdi would be delicious. As it is now, it needs a lot more masala.It has to be admitted, however, that comedy is difficult these days. The Gujaratis may not start burning buses, but there’s no predicting what the others would do if they took offence.

Some characters in Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan like Hansa (Supriya Pathak) didn’t change and it was wise to keep her character the way it was in the first part. Supriya Pathak does justice to her role as usual. We don’t want her to change a bit, because she is the only fun element in the film. But, otherwise, sitting through this mindless comedy was a royal pain.
