Why Rajesh Khanna And Amol Palekar Never Worked Together After Their 1980-film Aanchal

Amol, in terms of his acting career, has been senior to Rajesh Khanna.

Amol was not happy with Rajesh Khanna after an incident on the sets of Aanchal.

Rajesh Khanna and Amol Palekar are renowned for their stellar performances in many Bollywood films. Both stars had once teamed up for director Anil Ganguly’s venture Aanchal (1980), produced by Bemisal Films Pvt Ltd. This film was a hit due to their performances and the riveting storyline as well. Aanchal, however, turned out to be the last film in which Rajesh Khanna and Amol Palekar worked together. According to a report in IMDB, Anil Ganguly told Amol Palekar that Kaka, as Rajesh Khanna was known, would kick him in a scene. In this scene, Amol had to bend down at Rajesh Khanna’s feet to ask for an apology. Amol refused to act in the scene, as he felt it was degrading to his character. Anil Ganguly explained that it was important for him to do this part. Amol Palekar, however, was adamant to not do this scene. Then the director and Rajesh Khanna devised a plan. Anil Ganguly asked Amol Palekar to just kneel in front of Rajesh Khanna. Amol heard the scene and agreed to do it. When the shooting of that part commenced, the director signalled Kaka to kick Amol Palekar. Rajesh Khanna did as told.

Kaka and Anil Ganguly had a good laugh over their way of conducting the scene cleverly. Amol Palekar, however, never forgave them. He never worked with both celebrities again. This scene also brought to an end the friendship between Rajesh Khanna and Amol Palekar. Amol has been senior to Rajesh Khanna, in terms of his acting career.

The music compositions of this film also struck a chord with the audience. One of them is Paise Ka Kaajal Daike Na sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. Rahul Dev Burman had composed the music. Majrooh Sultanpuri penned the lyrics of this number.

The audience appreciated the vocals, dance, and picturisation of this number.

Aanchal had a star-studded cast of actors Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Prem Chopra, Jankidas, and others. This film is a remake of the Bengali movie, Champadangar Bou.

Rajesh Khanna died on July 18, 2012. Amol Palekar is still active in Bollywood and last acted in the film Gulmohar.
