Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Box Office Collection Day 7: Rises On Thursday, Crosses 11 Crores In One Week
In its first week at theatres, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has collected 11.37 crores at the box office. The film started at 1.10 crore on Friday and then closed at 1.05 crore on Thursday. The good part is that the numbers are bigger than Wednesday when 1 crore had come in. Though these are consistent collections, the fact also remains that the film needed a lot more push so that a breakthrough could have happened.
The film saw a restricted release for itself at select screens and shows. The reviews for the film were largely good, but what was required was a large widespread debate to happen so that it could have given further push at the box office. In the past, volatile films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story really benefitted from that. In fact, a few weeks back, even Article 370 managed to emerge as a very good success, though in all fairness, it benefitted from the fact that it also boasted of action and thrills, and was set in the current times. In comparison, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a piece of history centred around a person particular for whom there have been varied (and polarised) accounts over the decades.
What has to be seen is where does the film go from here. Crew is releasing today, and so is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, both of which will bring in at least 20 crores between them and hence would be pretty much invading the screens. Some sort of consistency today, with not much of a drop from yesterday, will help this Randeep Hooda film play on till Eid. Considering it’s a Good Friday partial holiday today, that could well turn out to be the case, too.
