Alia Bhatt Teams Up With Gurinder Chadha For Disney’s Indian Princess Musical; Report

A recent report suggests that Alia Bhatt might be gearing up to star in Gurinder Chadha and Disney’s Indian Princess musical.
Alia Bhatt has been on a roll with back to back commercial as well as critical success. From Gangubai Kathiawad to Darlings, Brahmastra to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the actress has also managed to create a space for herself amid the international audience with ‘Heart Of Stone’. The actress who is also enjoying motherhood with her daughter Raha might have scored her second international project, an Indian princess musical with Disney that will be helmed by Gurinder Chadha.
Renowned filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, known for her directorial successes like Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, is currently immersed in the creation of a musical film centered around an Indian princess, a project in collaboration with Disney. Recent revelations have come to light regarding the primary cast members of this highly anticipated cinematic endeavor. As per a recent report from Mid-Day, Gurinder Chadha has been engaged in ongoing discussions with Alia Bhatt regarding a role in this project. A source from the portal revealed, “The two have been in talks for a while. The final casting will happen only after the script is developed, but Alia is among the top casting choices.”
The source from the portal also noted that leading an exciting international project like this would signify a major step for Alia in cementing her position on a global scale, especially following her debut in Hollywood with Heart of Stone last year. Should these plans come to fruition, Alia is said to kick off work with Chadha in the latter half of 2025.
In 2022, Deadline had announced that Disney had given the green light to an original musical inspired by a ‘dynamic princess from Indian history.’ The screenplay for this project will be crafted by Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, with Chadha also taking on the roles of director and producer. However, details regarding the storyline are currently undisclosed.
On the work front, Alia is preparing for the upcoming release of the action thriller ‘Jigra,’ directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. This film, centered around a sibling relationship, features The Archies actor Vedang Raina.
Furthermore, Alia is set to commence filming for a standalone project within Aditya Chopra’s spy universe. Additionally, she will collaborate once again with her director from Gangubai Kathiawadi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, for the grand saga Love & War, sharing the screen with her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal.
