The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by Salim-Javed. It was produced by Bachchan’s father, GP Sippy. Billed as an action-adventure, Sholay was released in 1975. The duo had to take a long ride in an auto to reach the shooting location.

As reported by Filmi Beat, in the episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan shared a story with contestant Preet Mohan Singh, a DIG with CRPF and a big fan of Sholay. During their chat, Big B recounted an incident from the movie’s climax when Dharmendra mistakenly fired a real gunshot. Fortunately, the bullet missed Amitabh Bachchan.
