Aamir Khan said that he wants to work hard in his last few working years.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently said that he feels he has roughly 10 years left to work actively in Bollywood. Aamir Khan has often expressed that he looks forward to retirement and quitting films. However, now that he feels he has limited time in the movie business, he wants to make the best of these years.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir said, “I have never taken up six movies together in my life. This time, I had my own reason for it. When I finally decided that, ‘Okay, I won’t leave films yet’, the next thought came to me that this is probably the last 10 years of my active working life.”
He added, “You can’t trust life, we might die tomorrow. So, I am saying, I roughly have 10 years of active life. I am 59. Till I am 70, I will hopefully be well enough to be productive. So, then I thought, let me make my last 10 years the most productive. More than that, as I am getting older, I want to support talent which I believe in–writers, directors, all creative people. I want to become a platform for talents I believe in before I retire at 70. That’s why I took up more films.”
Aamir Khan would have quit films if it weren’t for his kids, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The thought of retiring from cinema crossed his mind while he was filming his 2022 release, Laal Singh Chaddha. However, once his children made him understand and asked him to find a middle ground instead of taking the extreme step, he decided to follow their advice.
At present, Aamir Khan is busy shooting his upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to his 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which also features Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh. In the same interview, Aamir said, “It’s a beautiful story,” and further talked about the differences between his 2007 film and the new one. He shared that while Taare Zameen Par is an “emotional film” that makes people cry, Sitaare Zameen Par is the opposite. “It makes you laugh. It’s a humorous film,” said the actor.
The 59-year-old actor clarified that the themes of both films are similar. “The theme is similar of people with different abilities, different intelligences, or with different challenges. So, the theme is similar, but the feel of the film. The emotional feel of the film is humour as opposed to emotions.”
He continued, “In many ways, I feel it’s way ahead of Taare Zameen Par. Because in Taare Zameen Par, the person who was with the challenge in the film, that is Ishaan, was helped by a character, my character. In Sitaare Zameen Par, it is the ten people with challenges, they help me, the supposedly normal person.”
Meanwhile, with Laapataa Ladies being selected as India’s entry for the 97th Academy Awards, Aamir Khan is busy lobbying for the film with Kiran Rao.
