When Robert Pattinson Lied About Watching A Clown Die As A Child

Robert Pattinson recently revealed that he used to make up stories during interviews to entertain himself as he would go into “fugue state.”
Robert Pattinson recently took a trip down memory lane, recalling an interview when he fabricated an absurd story about witnessing a clown die in a car explosion as a child. The 38-year-old actor shared this bizarre story in 2011 while promoting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. As his fame grew, Pattinson found himself on a constant global press tour which seemed to wear him down. This led him to share playful and confusing stories in interviews.
In an interaction with The New York Times for his upcoming film Mickey 17, Pattinson watched his 2011 interview and was left surprised by his own outrageous claim. He couldn’t help but laugh wondering if he had been “possessed” at the time.
Pattinson explained that during interviews, he would sometimes go into a “fugue state” and tell wild stories just to escape the repetitive questions. “There was absolutely no hesitation at all [in my voice], I’m like, “What on earth? Are you possessed?” … The only thing people would ever ask me about was being famous. You go into, like, a fugue state,” he said.
If you think the clown story was the only wild tale Pattinson has come up with, think again. As reported by Variety, the actor has a whole collection of stories he told during interviews, each one more bizarre than the last. He had in the past claimed that he was a women’s hand model and he once took a stalker out to dinner. He even said that he insisted on filming a deleted coprophilia scene for Twilight.
The Remember Me actor also opened up about his audition for the 2006 fantasy film Eragon, directed by Stefen Fangmeier. He recalled a scene where his character finds a dragon egg, a moment meant to be heroic. However, Pattinson approached the scene as a tragedy. “There’s this scene where he finds a dragon egg and it’s supposed to be a heroic moment. I remember my manager saying they thought I was on drugs,” Pattinson said.
Apart from his role in Mickey 17, directed by Parasite Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho, Pattinson is also gearing up to return as Bruce Wayne in the The Batman sequel. He will reunite with director Matt Reeves for the film which is scheduled to shoot in 2025.
During the interview, he also shared a funny story from the airport where an employee asked him, “Hey, you’re the guy from Twilight. Why’d you stop acting?” “I was like … ‘I’m Batman?’ She just laughed,” he recounted.
