Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule has created a storm at the box office, delivering an electrifying opening that has shattered multiple records. Directed by Sukumar and also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, the action-packed sequel opened to an earth-shattering collection of Rs 65–67 crore nett in Hindi on Day 1, setting an all-time record. The film dethroned Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (Rs 65.5 crore) to claim the title of the highest Hindi opener ever.
Not only did Pushpa 2 surpass Jawan, but it also broke the record for the biggest South-dubbed Hindi opener, previously held by KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 52 crore). Overall, the film grossed approximately Rs 175 crore nett across all languages in India on its opening day, showcasing its pan-India appeal.
In another major feat, Pushpa 2 claimed the title of the biggest non-holiday opener in Hindi, edging out SRK’s Pathaan, which had earned Rs 55.75 crore on its opening day earlier this year. While these are early estimates, the actual figures could soar even higher once final numbers are revealed, according to Pinkvilla.
The film’s stupendous opening was powered by phenomenal response in mass centers, with single screens and non-national chains contributing a whopping 60–62% of Day 1’s collections. Its unparalleled appeal in B and C centers has set the stage for a potentially record-breaking run, as these regions are expected to contribute significantly to its lifetime total.
Released worldwide on December 5, Pushpa 2 received mixed reviews but has managed to strike a chord with audiences. Its performance over the extended four-day weekend will be crucial in determining whether it emerges as the highest-grossing film of 2024.
Picking up from where Pushpa: The Rise left off, the sequel delves deeper into Pushpa Raj’s (Allu Arjun) journey as he consolidates his power in the illegal sandalwood trade. Amidst his rise, Pushpa remains a principled man who fiercely protects his wife Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna) and loved ones. However, his growing empire is threatened by Inspector Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) and new rivals, adding layers of personal and professional conflict to the narrative.
