Despite being on a hiatus, the globally famous K-pop group BTS has achieved another milestone in their illustrious career. The group, comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, released a track titled DOPE back on June 24, 2015, at midnight KST. Nearly a decade after its release, the song has surpassed a whopping 800 million views on YouTube.
On January 1, at around 10:40 AM KST, South Korean media outlets reported that BTS’ 2015 song DOPE, one of the nine tracks of their third mini-album, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life pt.1, has crossed 800 million views on YouTube. This is their ninth music video to achieve such a feat. Before DOPE, BTS’ songs DNA, Boy With Luv, Dynamite, Blood Sweat & Tears, Fake Love, MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix), IDOL, and Butter have exceeded the number on YouTube. At the time of reporting, DOPE stands at 800,078,351 views and 9.3 million likes.
DOPE is an electronic hip-hop song with impressive saxophone tunes in the background. This track has a Japanese version as well, which was featured in their second Japanese studio album, Youth. Moreover, DOPE was BTS’ first music video to cross 100 million views on YouTube by 2016.
Speaking of BTS, the septet is currently on a hiatus as the members complete their mandatory military service, which began with Jin’s enlistment back in December 2022. In 2024, Jin and J-Hope were discharged from their duties after they served their nation for 18 months. While the eldest member of BTS completed his duty in June, J-Hope was discharged by mid-October. The other five members of the group are supposed to be completing their duties by June this year.
Since Jin’s discharge, the 32-year-old K-pop idol has released his first-ever solo album titled Happy and has been appearing at many variety shows. On the other hand, J-Hope has been out of the spotlight since completing his military service.
Moreover, there are reports in the media that state that once the septet reunites by June, they might release a new album. BTS released their last album, Proof, back in 2022. After releasing a new album, the seven-membered K-pop group might also embark on their much-awaited world tour in 2026. While there is no official confirmation either on their new album or their tour, still the reports of their comeback have caused a frenzy among their fans, the ARMYs.
