Viduthalai Part 2 was released amid high expectations but failed to live up to them. After a good start, the film couldn’t maintain momentum in the long run. Starring Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, and Manju Warrier in key roles, the film managed to emerge as a successful affair at the worldwide box office but couldn’t cover a greater distance and wrapped up the theatrical run below the 65 crore mark. Directed by Vetrimaaran, the Viduthalai sequel opened to positive to mixed reviews from critics. As the first installment was praised for its content, the expectations were high for the sequel. Unfortunately, due to a niche appeal, the film couldn’t mint bigger moolah, but still, it secured a success tag due to its controlled cost.

Viduthalai Part 2 wrapped up its theatrical run in India by earning 44.92 crore net. Including taxes, the gross domestic collection of the film closed at 53 crores. Overseas, the film didn’t earn much and ended its run at 10.20 crore gross. Combining the Indian and overseas gross, the film closed its big-screen journey by making 63.20 crore gross at the worldwide box office.

For those who don’t know, Viduthalai Part 1 earned 52.88 crore gross globally during its lifetime run. As compared to this, the second installment earned a 19.51% higher collection. Ideally, with the critical and commercial success of the first part, the film should have aimed for the 100 crore milestone, but that didn’t happen.

Reportedly, Viduthalai Part 2 carried a budget of 35 crores. Against this cost, it earned 44.92 crores, thus yielding 28.34% returns at the Indian box office. So, it secured a plus verdict, as per Koimoi’s parameters.
