When Sandeep Reddy Vanga Picked Bobby Deol For Animal Because He Liked His ‘Struggling Photo’
Talking about how he landed the role in Animal, Bobby Deol shared an unexpected and heartwarming story. He revealed that Sandeep picked him for the film after seeing a picture of him from his struggling days.
“Sandeep said, ‘Sir, I want you for this film because I saw this photograph of you and I love the expression in it.’ And that photo is from a time when I was struggling a lot, almost out of work. I was playing some cricket and someone must have snapped a picture of it. That’s how it all came about.”

EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Deol Praises Animal Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga: “The Best Director – He Doesn’t Play It Safe”
Bobby went on to describe how deeply he respects Sandeep as a filmmaker. After three decades in the film industry, it’s not every day that an actor finds someone who truly inspires them.
“I think Sandeep Reddy Vanga is incredible. In my 30 years of experience in this industry, I believe he’s the best director I’ve ever worked with. Not just because Animal became a big hit, but I think he really is something special.”
What really sets Sandeep apart, according to Bobby, is his bold approach to storytelling. While many directors stick to safe formulas, Sandeep doesn’t shy away from pushing boundaries.
“Because he makes every character come alive, you know? His way of thinking is just so different. Everyone else plays it safe, but he doesn’t; he just goes for it. It’s incredible.”
Bobby’s admiration for Sandeep is clearly heartfelt, and it’s lovely to see the mutual respect between an actor and his director. Sometimes, it really does take just one picture and one believer to change everything.
