It seems the audience is enjoying the refreshing new original horror content provided by Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners. The film has hit a significant milestone in less than five days at the box office in North America despite facing the blockbuster game adaptation A Minecraft Movie. It has also become one of the top five highest-grossing films of this year. Keep scrolling for more.
The film opened with significant numbers, earning the title of the biggest opening for original horror in the post-COVID era. It has received excellent ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, and following the great opening, its director, Ryan Coogler, released a letter of gratitude to its fans for the support. He thanked everyone, emphasizing how much it means that audiences showed up, shared the film, and embraced the theatrical experience.
Michael B Jordan led Sinners registered the 2nd biggest Monday post-COVID for horror movies with a drop of -36.6% only from Sunday. It has beaten Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s $6.2 million 1st Monday gross but stayed below A Quiet Place 2’s $9.5 million Monday [Memorial Day holiday]. Owing to its strong word of mouth and Jordan’s performance, the movie has crossed the $50 million milestone in just 4 days.
According to Luiz Fernando‘s report, Coogler’s film has earned $55.8 million at the box office in North America. Therefore, the original horror flick has become the fifth highest-grossing release of 2025, surpassing One of Them Days’ $50.05 million. It might become the only ninth horror movie post-COVID to cross the $100 million milestone in the US.
Sinners opened to $15.5 million at the overseas box office, and after adding to the domestic cume, the worldwide cume has hit $71.3 million. The movie by Ryan Coogler was released in cinemas on April 18.
