I don’t think I can do Disco Dancer sequel now – Beyond Bollywood

The legendary actor has no qualms if Babbar Subhash or any one wants to make a sequel to his 1982 cult film, but he has categorically ruled himself out.

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty keeps a low profile. So, when he does make the odd public appearance, everyone takes notice. Chakraborty stepped out to promote his son Namashi’s debut film Bad Boy [2023]. Mithu and everyone beat the heat to spread the word around Bad Boy.

The ever-popular actor shot to fame as India’s first Disco king with films like Disco Dancer [1982] and Dance Dance [1987].  There’s been buzz that Disco Dancer maker Babbar Subhash is planning a sequel. Mithun Chakraborty was then asked whether he would be part of it?

“If anyone wants to make a sequel, that is a good thing. However, I don’t think I can do it now. It wouldn’t be right to comment much. All I can say is all the best. Please go ahead and do it. I’m not ashamed to say that if today you ask me to do Disco Dancer steps, I can’t do it. You change with time. I have slowed down,” said Chakraborty.

Few seconds later, a scribe asked Mithun whether he would like to be part of the sequels to his classics if his sons Namashi or Mimoh was part of it?

“No, not the iconic films. It will be killed. Media itself will criticize it. I wish that he [Namashi] doesn’t do any such film. I believe he has to take his own call. Yes, if he gets diverted, I will be there to support him,” said the veteran actor.

The conversation veered towards impact of music on films. The same is barely seen as there is a decline in the quality of the music.  The legend acknowledged he owed the success of his films to their catchy music and the dancing.

“If we talk of music then 60 % of my tracks became hits on the back of my dancing. I believe we still have good music directors,” clarified Chakraborty.
