Another Failure for Universal Pictures India

Nosferatu Poor India Release:

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu was released in India on January 10, 2025, on limited screens. The film was distributed by Universal Pictures India, which suffers from poor track record in the country. This led the film to experience horrible opening day numbers, as expected.

The film opened with empty houses in the morning and afternoon, with whatever limited screens it played on. The evening shows saw better occupancy, but nothing that could have saved the day. The horror film collected approximately Rs. 25-30 lacs on opening day and will likely reach the Rs. 1 crore mark by the end of the opening weekend.

The studio of Nosferatu didn’t manage to create any buzz before the release, which was pretty much expected from the studio, who have seen similar results on previous occasions too.

Nosferatu

Based on F.W. Murnau’s 1922 masterpiece of the same name, Nosferatu stars Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe. None of them are particularly popular names in India, making it difficult for the film to collect a respectable amount. With no substansial fan following like Marvel and Warner Bros, and non-exciting projects, it also became challenging for the studio to gain traction in the media fraternity. Hopefully, things will improve in the future for the studio.
