Anurag Kashyap to move to South, Disgusted by Bollywood!
The filmmaker lamented that the joy of filmmaking has been overshadowed by commercial pressures in Bollywood. He also severely criticised the culture of stardom perpetuated by agencies, accusing them of prioritizing superficial glamor over genuine acting talent.

“Next year, I’m moving out of Bombay. I’m going to the South. I want to go where there is stimulation. Otherwise, I will die as an old man. I am so disappointed and disgusted by my own industry. I am disgusted by the mindset,” Anurag Kashyap said to The Hollywood Reporter India.
The director commented that the joy of filmmaking has been sucked out, with producers prioritizing sales and margins over creativity, stripping away the freedom to experiment.
Anurag Kashyap Says Nobody Wants To Act, They All Want To Be Stars
Anurag Kashyap also bashed the focus on stardom over acting, saying agencies focus on making money off stars rather than nurturing talent. Instead of sending actors to workshops to improve their craft, they emphasize glamor and appearance to create larger-than-life stars.
“Nobody wants to act—they all want to be stars. The agency won’t make anybody a star, but the moment someone becomes a star, the agency makes money off them. They will brainwash them and tell them what they need to do to become a star. They won’t send them to workshops but to the gym—it’s all glam-glam because they have to be massive stars,” Kashyap said.
It’s evident from Anurag Kashyap’s words about his deep disappointment with Bollywood, where creativity is overshadowed by money and stardom. He feels the industry has lost its focus on real storytelling and acting. By moving to the South, he hopes to find more freedom and inspiration.
