As the second anniversary of ASTRO’s Moonbin’s passing approaches, his agency, Fantagio, has announced a heartfelt tribute in his memory. The special song, described as a “letter from Moonbin’s friends to Moonbin,” has been created by his close friends and fellow artists who continue to cherish and honour him. Moonbin was found dead in his apartment in April 2023, leaving fans and loved ones devastated.
As reported by Koreaboo, on Friday, March 28, Fantagio released a statement saying, “In April, Moonbin’s friends will release a song they have worked on together. The new song will be composed as ‘a letter from Moonbin’s friends to Moonbin’. Details about the participating artists will be announced sequentially.” They added, “We hope that this new song can serve as a source of comfort and as a gift to the fans who continue to remember and love Moonbin.”
While the company has yet to disclose the full list of participating artists, several Korean media outlets suggest that Moonbin’s ASTRO bandmates Cha Eun Woo, MJ, Jinjin and Sanha, as well as the late K-pop idol’s sister, Moon Sua from Billlie, will be a part of the tribute. Moreover, his friends, such as SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan and DK and VIVIZ‘s SinB, are rumoured to have contributed to the song.
The untimely demise of Moonbin left a void in the hearts of those who deeply loved him, including his bandmates. Last year, when Cha Eun Woo appeared on You Quiz, he reflected on Moonbin’s sudden passing away and said that he felt guilty about doing anything after his death.
While talking about his friend, Eun Woo became visibly emotional. Speaking about the song he wrote titled Where Am I, to honour Moonbin, he said, “It was a very difficult year for me, personally. I wrote these lyrics for this album. I really wanted to do it. It’s in my heart. I wrote it while crying. This time, I still can’t sing the song.”
On April 19, 2023, Moonbin was found dead at his home in the Gangnam District of Seoul at the age of 25. He was reportedly found by his manager after he failed to attend rehearsals. Back then, the police shared that Moonbin took his own life.
