‘Audience Is An Idiot And…’, Vivek Agnihotri Sarcastically Lauds Success Of Pathaan!

Director Vivek Agnihotri is known for talking his heart out in the public. In the recent past, Agnihotri was heard giving his views on the controversy surrounding Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Now that the film has done wonders on the box office, the filmmaker has a different story to say. He has credited Shah Rukh Khan charisma and fan following for Pathaan’s tremendous run in the cinema halls

Vivek Agnihotri on success of Pathaan

In a podcast, Vivek said, “After Pathaan, I have a feeling that everybody will fall back to their fundamental beliefs that the audience is an idiot and to make a hit film, all you just need is star power with a lot of marketing hype.” He termed the success of Pathaan as ‘victory of the age-old, exploitative, nepotistic top-heavy system.’

Furthermore, Vivek slammed the ones who called for boycott of the movie. He stated that the success of Pathaan should also be credited to those made ‘stupid statements’ against it and threatened to boycott it. According to Vivek, the promotions of the film had turned into a political campaign which worked for it.

“I also think that some credit should also go to people who were giving stupid statements against the film and people who were unnecessarily protesting and asking for boycott and these are different people from regular ‘Boycott Bollywood’ gang,” quoted Vivek.

Vivek Agnihotri had heavily criticised Pathaan amid the controversy over its bold song ‘Besharam Rang’. But despite all the backlash, the movie has scripted history as it became the highest grossing film of Hindi cinema. It has grossed Rs 901 crore worldwide and Rs 558 crore in India.

For the unversed, Pathaan is directed by Sidharth Anand. Besides Shah Rukh Khan, it also stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, Ashutosh Rana and others in prominent roles.
