Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, fondly known as Bharat Kumar, passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai. He breathed his last at 3:30 AM on Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The cause of death was heart-related complications, with liver cirrhosis noted as a secondary cause.

Manoj Kumar was a true icon of Indian cinema, best known for films that celebrated patriotism. His powerful storytelling and deep love for the country earned him a special place in the hearts of millions.

Over his career, he won numerous awards, including the prestigious National Film Award in 1968 for Upkaar, which was named the Second Best Feature Film of the year.
He also won seven Filmfare Awards across various categories:
- 1968 – Upkaar: Best Film, Best Director, Best Story, and Best Dialogue
- 1972 – Be-Imaan: Best Actor
- 1972 – Shor: Best Editing
- 1975 – Roti Kapda Aur Makaan: Best Director
In recognition of his contribution to cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992. He also received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. The highest honor in Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was bestowed upon him in 2015 by the Government of India.
Some of his most loved and memorable films include Gumnaam, Woh Kaun Thi?, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Patthar Ke Sanam, Shaheed, Kranti, and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.
Manoj Kumar’s legacy is one of passion, pride, and patriotism. He will always be remembered for his heartfelt films that touched the soul of a nation. May he rest in peace.
