EXO’s Baekhyun has found himself at the centre of controversy, facing accusations of contributing to the group’s recent struggles. A viral post on TheQoo claims that Baekhyun’s actions have played a role in EXO’s setbacks, particularly the alleged cancellation of their highly anticipated winter album. The controversy stems from an ongoing legal dispute between SM Entertainment and Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin, leaving fans frustrated and divided.
As a result, Baekhyun has become the focus of intense backlash, with many fans blaming him and the trio’s press conference for the alleged cancellation of EXO’s activities and future events.
“Baekhyun, Who Ruined EXO and Still Makes Fans Suffer. EXO’s winter album—something they themselves hinted at in advance—completely fell apart due to the ChenBaekXi press conference and lawsuit, and of course, their comeback was scrapped as well. Because of this, there was no group Season’s Greetings either, and EXO’s fandom endured a painful time,” the viral post read, as per Koreaboo.
Earlier in 2024, three EXO members publicly addressed their ongoing dispute with SM Entertainment, alleging that the agency failed to honour the agreed commission rate for albums and music as part of their settlement. They also accused SM of engaging in unfair practices by demanding a share of their revenue from individual activities. While the legal battle remains unresolved, recent reports suggest that the trio will now be included in EXO’s 13th-anniversary celebrations, with the company proceeding with the rest of the group.

This has also sparked a debate online, leaving fans divided. One wrote, “It’s not even just about self-respect. Where’s the respect for their fans and brotherhood from both sides? Can’t they all come to an agreement and sue SM? Forget the grudges and give their fans at least one last anniversary gift?” while another added, “It’s not some random event; it is EXO’s 13th anniversary. Excluding EXO members who are active and have cleared their schedules is beyond ridiculous and petty. Anyone who is okay with this is just setting them up for worse in the future.”
Baekhyun also expressed his disappointment over the decision, stating that he wished he had been informed about it in advance. “Such a shame,” he wrote.
Formed by SM Entertainment, EXO debuted in 2012 with Xiumin, Chen, Baekhyun, Suho, Lay, DO, Kai, Chanyeol and Sehun.
