Last year, some people on the internet accused the BLACKPINK singer of using her rumoured boyfriend Frédéric Arnault’s connections, thus accusing her of nepotism.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa, aka Lalisa Manobal, made her acting debut with the third season of the American dark comedy-drama The White Lotus. She played Mook, a Thai local and health mentor for the guests at the luxurious resort. From the show’s first episode to the last, Lisa’s simple storyline and her budding romance with Gaitok, the resort’s security guard, played by Tayme Thapthimthong, kept the viewers hooked.
With The White Lotus season 3’s finale airing on April 6, Lisa received mixed reactions to her character’s ending. Now, old allegations of nepotism or favouritism have also surfaced in the media.
A journalist named Louis Pisano took to his X account and shared a post which was posted by Vanity Fair in November last year. He wrote, “Now that that’s over…..10 total minutes of air time does not a Hollywood star make,” referencing Lisa’s total screen time in The White Lotus. The post in question is the media outlet’s 2025 The Hollywood Issue online, where it celebrates “cinematic excellence” every year by naming a dozen of actors who made waves in Hollywood. The cover page of the issue included Lisa among Zendaya, Glen Powell, Dev Patel, Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman, Jonathan Bailey and others.
Back when it was published, the same edition of Vanity Fair created much noise on the internet because people were confused about Lisa’s inclusion, among others. Some even accused the BLACKPINK singer and rapper of using her rumoured boyfriend Frédéric Arnault’s connection, thus accusing her of nepotism. After much criticism, Vanity Fair’s editor-in-chief came out in support of Lisa, revealing that her then-upcoming role in The White Lotus was the reason why she was included.
As the journalist once again brought back the outlet’s cover, questioning Lisa’s role in the show, fans came out in her defence. They used other actors’ examples to justify that Lisa’s role in the show has led to an increase in the viewership.
One fan said, “Zendaya was in Dune for like 10 minutes and was still present throughout the press tour. Why? She’s popular and brings viewers, that’s what HBO wanted. It’s called ADVERTISING! MARKETING! PROMOTION!”
Another added, “Thanks to Lisa’s less than 10-minute appearance, views for this season of The White Lotus increased by almost 57%, cos even her haters like you are waiting for it.”
“And yet people are talking about her, including you, discussing her character and praising how good she is. Aww, you must be miserable,” said a different fan.
