I blame the current and frustrating fetish of the audience to watch ‘Mass’ cinema that we glorify flawed people and their perverted understanding of machoism. They wanted to be firm that this was not a remake of the Malayalam thriller. Or maybe the leading man wasn’t comfortable in essaying a queer. Maybe the makers wanted to give a more stylized and bronzed look to Dev-A. Style hai babu Bhaiyaa makers ka style. No points for guessing which film comes to mind.

Deva has everything—action, emotion, a gripping plot, and a hero worth rooting for. While it’s not without its flaws, the film is a must-watch for Shahid Kapoor fans and anyone who enjoys a well-rounded, thrilling cinematic experience. Andrrews’ direction, combined with Shahid’s stellar performance, ensures that Deva will leave a lasting impression. Don’t go in expecting Kabir Singh—this is a different Shahid Kapoor, one who’s evolved and excels in a role that’s as memorable as it is impactful.

While the film celebrates its heroic cop, it doesn’t shy away from critiquing the very institution Dev represents. Despite the flaws, Deva is a slow-paced and engaging investigative thriller.

The plot in the first half is gripping, especially surrounding a crime investigation scene. The action sequences are slick and well choreographed. The background score by Jakes Bejoy is is catchy and adds a swag-worthy touch to the scenes.Deva‘s first half ends in a high point and we are hoping that the second half maintains this pace. The second half shouldn’t fall prey to any meandering sub-plots. The movie also touches the subject of police brutality.

The casting is on point and all actors perform their characters effortlessly. The interval comes at a point where Dev is trying to understand his new reality as the pressure of solving an important case weighs over him. Along with Dev, the viewers are left eagerly waiting for the second half, to uncover lies, and discover the all new Dev. This is the review of the first half of Deva.
