Drew Barrymore Calls Her Close Friend Adam Sandler ‘Best On-Screen Kiss’

Barrymore and Sandler, 58, have shared the screen in three beloved rom-coms: The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004) and Blended (2014).

Actress Drew Barrymore, known for her charm in romantic comedies and her warm presence as a talk show host, isn’t just about on-screen sparks. She values something deeper. The 49-year-old recently revealed her all-time favourite on-screen kiss and unsurprisingly, it’s with her longtime friend and co-star, Adam Sandler. Having shared the screen in three beloved rom-coms, The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004) and Blended (2014)—Barrymore said their connection goes beyond just movie magic.”I mean, I love that Adam Sandler and I are so platonic. We never dated, his wife Jackie is my dear friend,” she explained during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

For Barrymore, the magic between her and Sandler isn’t about fiery passion, it’s something more profound. “But I love being in films with him because I think we’re representing something bigger than hot, sexual chemistry. We’re representing true admiration of another person,” she continued.

Their cinematic journey together began with The Wedding Singer, where Barrymore played Julia, a sweet bride-to-be and Sandler charmed audiences as Robbie, a wedding singer with a heart of gold. Six years later, they reunited for 50 First Dates, a heartwarming tale about a Hawaii-based veterinarian (Sandler) determined to win over a woman (Barrymore) whose memory resets every day.

Then came Blended in 2014, a hilarious misadventure in which their characters endure a disastrous blind date, only to unexpectedly reconnect later with their families in tow.

Despite the years and their ever-evolving careers, Barrymore and Sandler have remained as close as ever. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in early 2024, Barrymore gushed about their enduring friendship.

“We’re so close. We text all the time. We see each other. We text,” she shared.

But there might be room for one more in their legendary partnership. Barrymore hinted at wanting to collaborate with Jennifer Aniston, another frequent Sandler co-star, known for their work together in Just Go With It (2011), Murder Mystery (2019) and Murder Mystery 2 (2023).

According to People, Aniston, for her part, is all in on the idea. She even joked about teaming up to “put an end to this competition” over who gets to star with Sandler the most. A Barrymore-Sandler-Aniston trio on the big screen? Now that would be a movie worth watching!
