EXCLUSIVE: “I hope after Dhoom Dhaam, the perception of female characters changes”

Yami Gautam On Her Character in Dhoom Dhaam:

The trailer for Yami Gautam and Pratik Gandhi’s Dhoom Dhaam was launched a few days ago. From the trailer, it looks like a typical fun rom-com with a new twist of madcap comedy thriller that adds extra excitement. During a recent conversation with the media, the leading actress spoke about the film and her views on such characters.

When asked why we don’t really see such female-led comedies in Bollywood and if she believes that after this film the perception will change for storytellers and actors, Yami told Movie Talkies, “I think Aditya (Dhar, writer) can tell you better because we (actors) are literally their projections on the screen. It’s all about the writing. I know how much time he spends on his work; it is like the Bible for him. That is the foundation. If you don’t have that foundation, you are just making a project, not cinema.”

“We, as actors, can only improvise a few things on the screen. Writers can create better female characters. I hope with this film we are able to change their perception and they write better characters, where there is some substance, some importance to us. Sri ma’am (Sridevi) will always be remembered for the same reason: because she played such characters.”

Speaking about her character during a group media conversation, Yami Gautam-Dhar shares, “Koyal defies the usual ‘bride’ stereotypes without being brash or bullish, or anything you have seen on screen before. I am sure a lot of girls today will connect with her. I thoroughly enjoyed taking on this role for Dhoom Dhaam. This film is a wild, unpredictable ride.”
