Aamir also highlighted the role of luck in an actor’s success, emphasizing that even immense talent and hard work may not be enough.
“Like every other parent, my parents also wanted me to be engineer or doctor. Back in the day, it was all about becoming doctors, engineers, or chartered accountants. Parents wanted their kids to aim for those typical paths. But when it comes to the film industry, it’s super unpredictable. You release one blockbuster, and then the next four films could tank. One day you’re at the top, and the next you might be down. Your career can be really shaky. In other professions, if you’re good at what you do, you’re likely to be successful. But in films, it doesn’t work like that at all.”
“You could be really talented, a fantastic actor, super hardworking—basically, you have all the qualities we look for. But if luck isn’t on your side, it won’t work out. This is a profession where your hard work and talent matter, but even that might not be enough to make you successful. I see so many actors who are putting in the effort but aren’t hitting it big, and it’s hard to understand why. That’s why my parents felt the way they did,” Aamir Khan commented.
Aamir Khan Reveals His Parents Were Wary Of Him Stepping Into The Unpredictable World Of Acting
Reflecting on his father’s struggles as a producer, Aamir acknowledged why his parents were wary of him stepping into the industry.
“This industry is really uncertain. My parents didn’t want me to get into it because they struggled a lot. My dad had a tough career as a producer; he had successful films but he wasn’t the best businessman. They really didn’t want us kids to end up in this unpredictable field. Every parent wants their kid to have some stability and a steady life, which is why they didn’t want me to go into this line of work.”
Despite their concerns, Aamir pursued his passion and became one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors. His journey is a testament to his resilience and dedication, proving that sometimes, following one’s heart can lead to extraordinary success.
