Celebrated Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad, known for directing films like Matha and Eddelu Manjunatha, was found dead in his Bengaluru flat. Preliminary reports suggest he may have taken his own life. His decomposing body was discovered after neighbours reported a foul odour coming from his apartment. While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death, authorities believe he passed away several days ago.
The Sandalwood community has been left in shock following the tragic loss of Guruprasad. Suspicion surrounding his death has increased as investigations continue. Actress Chaitra Kotoor, who was also a Bigg Boss Kannada 7 contestant, became emotional as she remembered Guruprasad, holding back tears in a video she posted on social media. Recalling the director’s impact, Chaitra shared that Guruprasad had been a guiding presence for her during difficult times. She posted a where she expressed her grief. “I don’t know good or bad. Some people say good things, and others speak negatively about Guruprasad sir. But I don’t know that. It’s been two days, and I can’t accept this loss,” Chaitra said. She continued, “They are the ones who gave me work when I was in pain and going through difficult times in my life. They hired me because he was a courageous writer.” Overwhelmed, Chaitra shared how deeply it hurt to see Guruprasad, who had encouraged her, now gone.
In tears, Chaitra further expressed how much she would miss him. “They called me and gave me a job. I will always remember Guruprasad sir. I recall the entire cast. Winning and losing is part of life, but those who spoke to Guruprasad sir and spent time with him will miss him greatly,” she said.
Reports indicate that Guruprasad, who recently turned 52, had been facing serious financial difficulties. These issues were compounded by recent allegations, several court proceedings, and reported harassment from creditors. During this time, his second wife, who is currently pregnant, was staying with her family. A comprehensive investigation into his death has now been launched by the police.
