Guru Randhawa Says He Sang At Weddings As A 9-Yr-Old, Earned Rs 150: ‘My Parents Wanted To…’

Guru Randhawa said that he used to sing at weddings as a 9-year-old to earn pocket money.
Singer Guru Randhawa is a sensation in Punjabi music. The versatile star has now made his debut in Hindi films with Saiee Manjrekar and Anupam Kher, in a film called Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay. In a recent conversation, Guru revealed that he has been earning since he was nine years old by singing at weddings in his native village.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Guru said, “My parents always wanted to see me on TV. They used to make me sing at every wedding. I used to sing at all the weddings in my village and would manage to earn around Rs 100- 150. Someone used to give me Rs 10, someone would give me Rs 20, matlab tabh se kamaai kar raha hoon main, I was in Class 3 or 4 when I started.”
“At the time Rs 20-30 was a big deal and I stopped asking for pocket money from my dad. My parents realised that this is what I wanted to do and I am good at it, so they never stopped me from doing it,” he added.
“I remember when I was first going to appear on TV, I went to my village because they used to ask me when I’ll be on TV, I remember it was March 3, 2013 that I finally appeared on a Punjabi TV channel and I sat with everyone in the village and watched myself on TV. I can’t forget how proud they were of me, I felt proud,” Guru concluded.
Having started his career in 2012, he has belted out chartbusters like Ban Ja Rani, High Rated Gabru and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui 2.0, and has become a force to reckon with in the indie music industry. Produced by Mach Films, Guru’s debut film, Kuch Khatta Ho Jaay, was released in theatres on February 16, 2024. The film is a fun love story with a modern take and a traditional setting, as per its teaser.
