Neetu Chandra claimed that such songs are using “Bhojpuri language to normalise vulgarity” and throw “women’s empowerment out of the window”.

Actress Neetu Chandra has accused Honey Singh of objectifying women and using them as sex symbols in his songs. Recently, Chandra, who is known for films like Garam Masala and Traffic Signal, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court and complained against Honey Singh’s latest song ‘Maniac’ for allegedly spreading vulgarity.
Not only Honey Singh but other artists, who collaborated with him on the song, including lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi, have also been named in the PIL. With her plea, Chandra has asked Singh to amend the lyrics of his songs.
Neetu Chandra claimed that such songs are using “Bhojpuri language to normalise vulgarity” and throw “women’s empowerment out of the window”. The matter is likely to be heard later this month.
After filing the PIL, Neetu Chandra also spoke about it in an interview with India TV when she urged the government to ban vulgar songs in Bihar.
“Vulgar Bhojpuri and Hindi songs are not leaving the girls and women going to school and college in Bihar, and they are forced to walk on the road with their eyes down. Due to these songs, women do not even like to watch TV at home. Many singers singing such songs have gained fame today, which can become an obstacle in the development of society and country,” she said.
“When girls or women will not be able to walk safely on the road, then will they be able to think about development. If a government can bring a law to ban liquor in its state to save women from drunken husbands, then can it not ban these vulgar songs for school-college going girls and women. I want there should be a complete ban on the production and playing of these songs in Bihar,” the actress added.
Honey Singh has not reacted to Neetu Chandra’s PIL as of now.
