‘I’d Do Anything For Them’: Ahmed Khan Talks About Reuniting With Salman Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala For Sikandar

Filmmaker Ahmed Khan returned to choreography after eight years for Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Sikandar. He was the person who ideated the viral steps of the Sikandar Naache song from the film. Recently, Ahmed spoke about reuniting with Salman and producer Sajid Nadiadwala for the project.

“I’d do anything for them,” said Ahmed Khan, while emphasising his long-standing association with the superstar-producer duo. He explained, “We wait for a Salman track because of the swag. He comes up with moves that even a grandfather can do, and sometimes he pulls off moves that even youngsters can’t match up. But whatever I’ve done with him, it has been a pleasure; when you have such a good-looking man in front of the camera, half the job is done. When you show him [a step], sometimes he doesn’t do it exactly how you want, but he does it in his own style and eventually you see your creation take shape.”

While Ahmed is now a hands-on director, he started his career as a choreographer. He returned to choreography after eight years, the last one being Jumme Ki Raat from Kick in 2014 with the same actor-producer duo. The song and the hook steps continue to remain immensely popular. But with Sikandar Naache, the makers’ goal was to surpass that success.

“Or at least try to reach that level,” Ahmed remarked. At this stage, Nadiadwala proposed integrating the Levantine folk dance, Dabke, into the track. Excited by the idea, Ahmed choreographed the performance, which was shot last month on a grand Mumbai studio set with around 500 dancers.

He added, “Sajid suggested adding the Dabke dance style. This has never been done in Hindi films before. He went out of his way to bring Lebanese dancers from Turkey who could perform Dabke. I loved that we made this addition. Salman has truly poured his heart into this song.”

Meanwhile, Salman Khan fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Sikandar trailer tomorrow, March 23. The film stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. It releases on March 30.
