Actor Sidhant Gupta, following his impressive role in the series Jubilee, returned to the OTT platform this year with a new project. Titled Freedom At Midnight, the web series is directed by Nikkhil Advani and is currently streaming on Sony LIV. In the show, the actor plays former Indian prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. His portrayal of the politician garnered him immense love from fans and audience. As viewers continue to pour in love for his craft and dedication, the actor recently sat down for an interview, revealing why he took a break from social media.

ICYDK, Sidhant Gupta maintained a private life for almost a year and a half before the release of Freedom At Midnight. When asked about the same in a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the actor admitted that he needed to disconnect from social media to prepare for his role. Sidhant said, “Jubilee gave me all the acceptance and love. Why did that happen? Because I was able to perform with all my heart, and that needs a lot. It requires you to just invest everything that you have in you, towards the character. So, all the other aspects of wanting to be seen in that time in the middle and keeping up with appearances take a backseat. I needed to just disconnect to get things right for my role in Freedom At Midnight.”

“My understanding is that if a project comes to make a mark, everything falls into place like it happened with Jubilee. So, it’s fine if I disappear because when I appear, I’ll appear right,” added the actor.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Sidhant Gupta also mentioned that it was a huge privilege to play a 56-year-old Jawahar Lal Nehru on screen. He continued, “I fell in love with Jawaharlal Nehru and what he stood for,” adding that “it became my mission to portray him in a way that earned him all the respect possible.”

Starring Sidhant Gupta, Chirag Vohra, Rajendra Chawla, Luke McGibney, Cordelia Bugeja, Malishka Mendonsa, Arif Zakaria, Ira Dubey, Rajesh Kumar and Alistair Findlay, the epic political thriller drama is penned by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai and Ethan Taylor. The story highlights “several incidents from the year of India’s independence and interconnected stories,” as the makers mentioned in a media interaction.
