Love is in the air And so is new Lizzo music. The chart-topping sensation surprised fans on Valentine’s Day with an emotional teaser, marking the beginning of her next musical chapter. She reportedly hopped on Twitch on Friday, February 14 and after a few technical hiccups, namely a muted microphone, she finally delivered a heartfelt gift to her audience. The teaser itself was brief but powerful. Lizzo appears in a close-up shot, eyes brimming with tears as a haunting flute melody plays in the background.
Soon, her tears give way to laughter before she suddenly adopts a deadpan stare, tears still streaming down her face. Then, just as the suspense peaks, a single date appears on the screen: February 28.
Though she left the nature of the release a mystery—whether it’s a single or an entire album—she did confirm one thing: she’s been pouring her heart into this project. “I’ve been working on music for the last two years, and took my time and I did it right. The new era begins today,” she shared.
And if that wasn’t enough to get fans buzzing, she followed up with an unmistakable Lizzo-style declaration: “I truly am coming to gag throats,” reports Billboard.
Eagle-eyed fans had already started suspecting something new was on the horizon when she officially bid farewell to her 2022 album, Special. Reflecting on the project’s journey, she took to Instagram on Thursday, February 13, with a heartfelt post alongside the album cover.
“It’s the end of a very special era. This album was my strut back into society after a hard 2020 & 2021. I wanted to help people turn up the music, turn down the lights and get a feeling they’ll be alright,” she wrote. “I wanted to remind people of how they may be broken but still perfect in their own way. 12 songs, 68 shows, 14 countries, 3 continents and nearly a million voices later we saw our specialness. We got through it together. I’m proud of the accolades, the Grammys the Emmys the Platinum plaque… but I’m most proud of the Legacy I’m leaving this world— lyrics that uplift you, music w real instruments, a reminder to dance and that it’s okay to cry… and high vibrations! I thank God every day that this is my job, and I don’t take it lightly,” Lizzo added.
To make her farewell even more official, she followed up with a video showing her spray-painting “Bye B—-” over the Special album cover in bold red paint.
With the past now behind her and a new era on the horizon, Lizzo is ready to take the world by storm once again. Fans better buckle up—February 28 is just around the corner.
