Margot Robbie Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Secrets Of Iconic Nude Scene In The Wolf Of Wall Street

Margot Robbie said she was the one who suggested going full frontal nude for her character in the scene.
Margot Robbie, who played Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street, recently shared an interesting behind-the-scenes detail. The scene where her character seduces Jordan Belfort, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, was famously shot with Robbie in full frontal nudity. At the time, she was in her early twenties and didn’t worry about how “everyone was going to see this.” Instead, it was Robbie’s own decision to go fully nude for the shot. She felt it was essential to portray her character’s confidence and power. While the director Martin Scorsese had offered her the option of wearing a robe for comfort, she believed that her character would not have chosen that route.
“[Scorsese] said, ‘Maybe you can be wearing a robe if you’re not comfortable.’ But that’s not what she would do in that scene. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing,” she explained on the Talking Pictures podcast.
Along with the unforgettable nude scene, Robbie shared a hilarious audition story involving DiCaprio. She was supposed to kiss him for the scene. Instead, she chose to slap him.
“I thought, ‘I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this.’ And then I thought nah and just walloped him in the face. It was dead silent for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds,” Robbie recalled.
But soon, both DiCaprio and Scorsese couldn’t stop laughing.
“They said, ‘That was great,’” Robbie remembered.
“I was thinking, ‘I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault or battery. Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot.’ And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter,” she added.
The Wolf of Wall Street, released in 2013, is based on the 2007 memoir by Jordan Belfort. The film tells the story of Belfort’s career as a stockbroker in New York City and how his firm, Stratton Oakmont, was involved in widespread corruption and fraud on Wall Street, which eventually led to his downfall. The movie starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill, Donnie Azoff, Matthew McConaughey and Kyle Chandler.
For Robbie, it was her first major role in a film. She later reunited with DiCaprio six years later for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
