Last Updated:

The issue was brought to light when Mumbai-based social activist Arif Ahmed Shaikh thought the campaign video was odd.

Actress Sana Khan’s Instagram account was used to promote this.

Actress Sana Khan has recently been the subject of a fraud case. The police claim that approximately Rs 4.5 crore was raised through medical fundraising for a four-year-old girl’s medical care. In actuality, though, none of these girls were sick or receiving care at Hinduja Hospital. After social worker Aarif Sheikh raised a complaint, the police filed a case against three defendants.

The complaint alleges that between January and June of 2024, the accused made a false claim that a four-year-old child who was brought to Hinduja Hospital for treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) needed Rs 17 crore. On January 11, actress Sana Khan shared a narrative on her Instagram account to promote the campaign. In this incident, using Piyush Jain, director of the Impact Guru app money was solicited for the treatment of a four-year-old girl called Inara Qazi.

The issue was brought to light when Mahim, Mumbai-based social activist Arif Ahmed Shaikh thought the video was odd. He visited Hinduja Hospital to find out how a girl named Inara was being treated. It was discovered that no such girl had been admitted.

Arif Shaikh petitioned the Kurla local court to conduct an investigation when he became certain that the case was fraudulent. During the petition hearing, the court directed the Matunga police to look into the situation. The police discovered during the investigation that the accused had raised over Rs 4 crore through crowdfunding to date. This sum was used for personal expenses by these individuals.

A case has now been filed by the police against Piyush Jain, Naufil Qazi, and Nikhat Khan. The three have been charged with crimes linked to Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The police will question these guys even though they haven’t been detained yet.
