neNayanthara and Dhanush have been hitting the headlines after the actress slammed him for refusing an NOC to use elements from their 2015 film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in her Netflix documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale’. In a recent update, Dhanush filed a civil lawsuit against Nayanthara and her husband, Vignesh Sivan, over the alleged use of 3-second footage from his production in her documentary. Now, in a conversation with Hindustan Times, Nayanthara’s lawyer has denied copyright infringement claims, stating that the footage was from personal archives.
Rahul Dhawan, Managing Partner, Lex Chambers, who is representing Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan and their production house Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, told Hindustan Times that they have formally responded to Dhanush’s legal notice, and that there has been no infringement or violation in the use of the visuals in the docuseries. He said, “Our response is that there is no infringement or violation because what has been utilised by us in the docu series is not part of behind-the-scenes (from the film). The same is part of personal library, Therefore this is not infringement.” The next hearing in the Madras High Court is expected on Monday.
On November 16, Nayanthara issued a long statement in which she blasted Dhanush for allegedly sending her a legal notice demanding Rs. 10 crore for using 3 seconds of behind-the-scenes footage. In her note, the actress wrote, “We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds) which were shot in our personal devices and that too BTS visuals that are already very much publicly present on social media and claimed a sum of Rs. 10 crores as damages for the mere 3 seconds. This is an all time low from you and speaks so much about your character.”
For the unversed, the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, directed by Vignesh Shivan, stars Nayanthara in the lead role. It was produced by Dhanush under his Wunderbar Films. Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, who were in a relationship ever since they worked together in this film, tied the knot in 2022.
