Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a superhero movie based on the DC Comics character Shazam. This is the long-awaited second instalment of the superhero film Shazam!, which was released in 2019. It is also the 12th movie in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) which started with Man of Steel (June 14, 2013). This film follows foster youngster Billy Batson, who has the ability to turn into the superhero Shazam whenever he shouts the word Shazam.
As Shazam! earned a lot of positive reviews for being more entertaining and humorous than the previous DCEU films, fans have huge expectations from its sequel. With just a few days left for the release, here’s everything you need to know about Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
When Will Shazam! Fury of the Gods Premiere?
After several delays due to Covid-19, the filming started on May 26, 2021. With a three-month schedule, the filming concluded on August 31, 2021.
The theatrical debut of Shazam! Fury of the Gods was initially scheduled for December 21, 2022. The original release date for the movie was April 1, 2022. This sequel was postponed, though, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, first until November 4, 2022, and then to June 2, 2023.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods premiered at TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on March 9, 2023, and is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on March 17, 2023.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods runtime
The movie will be just a few minutes shorter than its predecessor, with a runtime of 130 minutes (or 2 hours and 10 minutes).
What Will Shazam! Fury of the Gods Be About?
This sequel to the franchise will focus more on Billy’s foster brothers as the gang faces the Daughters of Atlas. Billy likely begins this sequel questioning whether he’s a superhero good enough. He finds it difficult to control his siblings’ superpowers as they each have their own agendas.
Nevertheless, the Wizard figure, played by Djimon Hounsou, who gave Billy abilities before dissipating into dust in the first film, finally informs him that the Daughters of Atlas are pursuing him.
The sisters repaired the Wizard’s power-transferring staff that Billy shattered in the previous movie since they think kids stole godly capabilities. They’ll presumably use it to reclaim these abilities from the Shazam Family.
Who stars in Shazam’s sequel?
Asher Angel and Zachary Levi once again lead the cast as Billy Batson and Shazam, respectively. Jack Dylan Grazer is back Freddy Freeman for the sequel. Other returning cast members include Djimon Hounsou, Adam Brody, Marta Milans, Ross Butler, Faithe Herman, and Meagan Good. Rachel Zegler is one of the newcomers this time around.
As for the villains, Helen Mirren plays Hespera while Lucy Liu plays Kalypso. They are the “gods” in question in the title who will be unleashing their fury on the world, known as the Daughters of Atlas. Also of importance, Michelle Borth won’t be returning as superhero Mary. Grace Fulton will be filling those shoes herself this time around.
