Vishal Starrer Becomes Kollywood’s First Super-Hit In 2025, Crosses 150% Returns

Yesterday, Madha Gaja Raja came out of all the benefits it enjoyed in the first eight days. Starring Vishal, Anjali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Santhanam in key roles, the film has pleasantly surprised everyone with its performance at the Indian box office. Release amid minimal expectations, the film unexpectedly turned out to be the first clean hit of Kollywood in 2025. Recently, it also secured the super-hit verdict. Directed by Sundar C, who previously helmed Aranmanai 4, the Tamil action comedy struggled for its theatrical release due to several legal issues. Finally, after 11 years, it hit the big screen on January 12. Amid an absence of big Kollywood releases, the film enjoyed the benefit of Pongal holidays and a weekend.

After the festive season and the successful weekend, Madha Gaja Raja had the first litmus test yesterday, i.e., on day 9. As per Sacnilk, it displayed a decent hold and earned an estimated 1.30 crores. As compared to the opening day of 3 crores, the film dropped by 56.66%. Including it, the total collection at the Indian box office stands at an impressive 37.90 crore net.

It’s a solid sum for a film that was supposed to be released in 2013. What’s more impressive is that Madha Gaja Raja is reportedly made on a budget of just 15 crores. Against this cost, it has already yielded an ROI (return on investment) of 22.90 crores. Calculated further using the ‘ROI/Budget*100 = ROI%’ formula, the film has minted 152.66% returns in just 9 days.

As per Koimoi’s parameters, a film with 150% returns is a super-hit at the Indian box office. So, with 152.66% returns, Madha Gaja Raja has become the first super-hit of Kollywood in 2025. Very soon, the film will score 200% returns, and for that, it needs to earn 45 crore net.
