Vyjayanthimala’s son, Suchindra Bali, has put an end to false reports claiming that the legendary actor-dancer had passed away at 91. Several media reports on Friday suggested that she had died, despite no official confirmation from her family. However, Suchindra swiftly debunked the rumors through his social media posts, urging people to verify news sources before sharing unverified information.
Taking to Facebook and WhatsApp, Suchindra clarified, “Dr Vyjayanthimala Bali is in good health, and any news that says otherwise is false. Before sharing, please validate the news source.” Musician Girijashankar Sundaresan, who has collaborated with Vyjayanthimala, also dismissed the speculation by posting “We’re better than this” on his Instagram stories.
Earlier this year, Vyjayanthimala captivated audiences at Kala Pradarshini in Chennai with a mesmerizing Bharatnatyam performance. Girijashankar, who provided vocals for the recital, expressed his admiration for her enduring talent, writing on Instagram, “An absolute honor to share the stage with Padma Vibhushan Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali Amma. Her grace, talent, and legacy continue to inspire us all. Grateful to be part of this magical experience! Cherishing this moment forever.”
Regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic female superstars, Vyjayanthimala made her Tamil film debut at 16 with Vaazhkai before transitioning to Telugu cinema with Jeevitham. Her breakthrough came in 1954 with the romantic classic Nagin, followed by her unforgettable portrayal of Chandramukhi in Devdas (1955). Over the years, she headlined numerous hits, including Sangam, Jewel Thief, Amrapali, and Ganwaar.
In 2024, Vyjayanthimala was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, recognizing her immense contributions to Indian art and cinema. Beyond films, she also had a stint in politics, contesting the 1984 Tamil Nadu general elections. Despite the unfounded death rumors, the veteran artist continues to inspire generations with her grace and legacy.
