Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is currently basking in the success of his latest blockbuster film ‘Gadar 2’. The movie is breaking all the records on ticket windows and it has been after a long time that the actor has come up with such a big hit. Before ‘Gadar 2’, Sunny’s career graph was going downhill. Now, in a recent interview with BBC UK, the actor has opened up on his low phase in the film industry.
Recalling his struggling times, Sunny said that though ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ became a massive hit after it released in 2001, he did not get good work post the film’s success. The actor stated:
“Before Gadar, I had no issues. I wasn’t getting much work even when it (Gadar) was a much-appreciated film of the century.”
Elaborating the reason behind the same, Sunny said that it happened because the world was changing and the “Hindi film industry was becoming Bollywood”. He mentioned that after Gadar, he did not do ‘anything great’ or wasn’t part of any ‘popular cinema’.
Furthermore, the actor shared that he did not collaborate with ‘big people or big companies’ because he didn’t relate to them. Sunny said that he only chose filmmakers in whom he saw a ‘drive’.
Let us tell you that Sunny who debuted in films with ‘Betaab’ in 1983 has been part of some all time blockbusters. The list includes ‘Ghayal’, ‘Narsimha’, ‘Damini’ and many more.
For the unversed, ‘Gadar 2’ is a sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha which came out in 2001. It is helmed by Anil Sharma. The film released on August 11 and is shattering all box office collections till today. It is nearing to Rs 500 crore mark and has become the second most successful film of 2023, after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’. Besides Sunny Deol, ‘Gadar 2’ also stars Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur and Manish Wadhwa in crucial roles.
