During a discussion with Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group, in Mumbai on Monday, Shefali Shah, the Bollywood actor recently nominated for the Best Actress category at the 2023 International Emmy Awards, candidly discussed the hierarchical dynamics prevalent on film sets. Shefali shared her experiences of working with a director and an actor who exhibited offensive behavior. She emphasized her resolve never to portray Akshay Kumar’s mother in any on-screen role.
In response to a question about the hierarchy prevalent on film sets, Shefali Shah candidly shared her experiences. She expressed, “To be honest, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with amazing individuals, and I genuinely mean that. I’ve encountered perhaps only one director or actor who displayed extreme offensiveness. Apart from that, I’ve had the privilege of working with directors who view actors not merely as performers but as valued collaborators.”
With a chuckle, Shefali continued, “I can assure you that I will never take on the role of Akshay Kumar’s mother in any future project.”
Shefali Shah took on the role of Akshay Kumar’s mother in the 2005 film “Waqt: The Race Against Time,” despite being five years younger than him at the time. Shefali was 32 years old, while Akshay was 37 when they worked together in the movie, which also featured Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra.
