Zooms Past Despicable Me 4’s $361M Domestic Haul & Becomes The 3rd Highest-Grossing Film Of The Year!

Wicked is enjoying the most at the domestic box office and has a strong leg there. The film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo has now beaten the US total of the animated feature Despicable Me 4. The musical fantasy keeps outperforming other pre-Thanksgiving weekend live-action releases. Scroll below for the deets.

Despicable Me 4 was released in July during the 4th of July week. It was directed by Chris Renaud and co-directed by Patrick Delage. Steve Carell returned as Gru in this Illumination creation. It is the third highest-grossing film of the year and has collected $361.00 million in the US and $969.25 million worldwide.

According to Luiz Fernando’s latest box office data, Wicked has surpassed the domestic total of Despicable Me 4 after grossing amazing numbers on its fourth Monday. The film only dipped 25.4% from last Monday and collected a record $2.5 million. It has outperformed the biggest pre-Thanksgiving weekend live-action releases, including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’s $868K and The Hunger Games Catching Fire’s $1.3 million.

Wicked has reached a $361.7 million cume and has also surpassed the domestic haul of Despicable Me 4, which is $361 million. Ariana Grande’s film is now the third highest-grossing film of the year in the United States. It is also the 65th highest-grossing film ever at the US box office and Universal’s fourth biggest release post-COVID there.

The musical fantasy is reportedly eyeing a $450 million to $470 million run in the United States. It also crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office during this weekend. It collected $166.14 million so far at the international box office, and allied with the domestic cume; the film stands at a $527.84 million global cume.

Wicked was released in the theatres on November 22.
